BC Ferries' Discovery Coast Passage service stops at many scenic ports, including Shearwater. The current town site was developed as an anti-submarine bomber reconnaissance unit in 1941, but this was disbanded in 1944. Shearwater has now become a full-service marina and fishing resort with lodgings, fishing charter operators, moorage for pleasure boaters, a small store and a post office.
