Our "Greatest Hits" getaway – from the Sunshine Coast to Vancouver Island

See some of the best sights and scenery that Coastal BC has to offer, from the Sunshine Coast’s seaside villages to Vancouver Island’s sandy beaches, on this easy-to-navigate circle tour. BC Ferries takes you through some of the most beautiful sights and scenery of BC’s vast territory.

A 40-minute BC Ferries trip from Horseshoe Bay gets you to the Sunshine Coast. With the densely forested Coast Mountains to the west, coastal Highway 101 will guide you along the waters of the Strait of Georgia to the east. This leg of the journey includes overnight stops at Pender Harbour, where you’ll enjoy two nights of harbourside luxury at the Painted Boat Resort, and at Powell River, where you’ll stay at Beach Gardens Resort & Marina. You’ll also have plenty of time for stops along the way at Sechelt and Gibsons and at many natural wonders, like the boiling, bubbling rapids of Skookumchuck Narrows.

Over on Vancouver Island, the Old Island Highway, which stretches from Courtenay to Parksville, links the many must-see destinations on this leg of the excursion. You’ll overnight at The Beach Club Resort’s deluxe waterfront accommodations in Parksville, where you’ll find prime stretches of sandy beach right outside the door. You can also pick up fresh oysters in Fanny Bay, stroll through streets lined with flower boxes at Qualicum Beach, or delve into nearby Little Qualicum Falls Provincial Park. You’ll find prime stretches of sandy beach, quaint towns, markets, wineries, beautiful farmland and panoramic coastal views – all enjoyable year-round. There’s no shortage of things to see and do on this getaway to the best of coastal BC.

We really enjoyed our mini vacation with BC Ferries. The accommodations were very comfortable and, since we had never been to the Sunshine Coast before, we really enjoyed exploring new places such as Half Moon Bay, Smuggler Trail and Skookumchuk Narrows.

Carol M.

The accomodations at the Painted Boat Resort were quite good and very comfortable. The location was convenient, we only had to walk to get to the park and IGA. The staff was quite helpful and friendly.
