See it all. You’ll start your journey through great northern forests, arriving at remote Port Hardy for your Inside Passage cruise aboard BC Ferries.

Cruise through the Inside Passage aboard a well-appointed vessel, complete with movie theatre, lounges and two restaurants. Relax in the comfortable Aurora Lounge, and take in the stunning vistas of the Coast Mountains’ glacier-carved fjords. Dine in the Vista Restaurant with its gourmet buffet and panoramic views. Along the way, you’ll see abundant marine wildlife and First Nations villages. And at the end, you’ll arrive in Prince Rupert, a nature-lover’s paradise where, depending on the season, you’ll enjoy a grizzly bear or whale-watching tour.

After two days in Prince Rupert, you’ll travel to the mountain towns that dot the Skeena and Bulkley river systems. Your final destination will be Smithers.

Day 1

Day 1 - Vancouver to Nanaimo

Ferry: West Vancouver (Horseshoe Bay) to Nanaimo (Departure Bay)

Depart from Horseshoe Bay on the mainland for a scenic 100-minute BC Ferries cruise across the Strait of Georgia to Vancouver Island and the city of Nanaimo. On arrival at the Departure Bay terminal, it’s a very short drive to the hotel.

Day 2

Day 2 - Nanaimo to Port Hardy

Northern Vancouver Island is famous for its forests. For over a century, the economy of this area has been driven by lumber, pulp and paper industries. This pristine region, which includes the remote communities of Sayward, Telegraph Cove and Port McNeill, offers rich wildlife viewing of deer, elk, bear, orca whales and bald eagles. Your final destination for the day will be the fishing community of Port Hardy.

Day 3 - Inside Passage Cruise to Prince Rupert

On your early-morning BC Ferries sailing, you’ll cruise through the world-famous Inside Passage. Enjoy all the amenities of this ship, and relax as it winds its way through some of the most rugged and beautiful scenery in the world. Keep an eye out for wildlife along the shoreline, killer whales and porpoises in the channel, and great bald eagles circling overhead. And watch for remote First Nations villages that are tucked into several of the bays along the route. Your spectacular day will come to a close when you dock in Prince Rupert.

Day 4

Day 4 - Prince Rupert - Whales, Grizzlies and Nature

Prince Rupert is a nature-lover’s paradise. Located only 60 kilometres southeast of the Alaska panhandle, the city is blessed with an abundance of surrounding wilderness that is home to a wide variety of wildlife. Travel to the famed Khutzeymateen Provincial Park and view the resident grizzly and black bear populations in their natural environment or, depending on the season, take a whale-watching cruise and view orca whales, humpback whales, porpoises and seals.

Day 5

Day 5 - Prince Rupert to Smithers

Follow the banks of the mighty Skeena River on your journey east along Highway 16, where you’ll get the chance to see the last remaining structures of the great fish canneries that used to cover the shores. Your drive will take you north through Terrace and the First Nations communities of Gitwangak and Gitanmaax (formerly known as Kitwanga and Hazelton, respectively). Turning south into the Babine Range of mountains, your route follows the mighty Bulkley River to Smithers, your destination for the night. Enjoy this community and its majestic surroundings, including the spectacular Hudson Bay Mountain and Glacier.

Day 6

Day 6 - Depart Smithers

After your stay in Smithers, continue on through the interior on your journey home.
