Share The Coast Safely Contest
#ShareTheCoastSafely and win a Ucluelet Getaway!
Our summer photo contest is back! This time with a twist.
As we begin to responsibly explore the Coast again, we're reminding passengers to travel with a face covering and wear it when physical distancing of 2 metres is not possible on board BC Ferries and at the terminals. From July 16 to August 13, share a photo showing how you're safely exploring BC with #ShareTheCoastSafely for a chance to win a 3-night Ucluelet Getaway with BC Ferries Vacations!
The prize package includes:
- Three nights’ accommodation at Water’s Edge Shoreside Suites in Ucluelet
- Round-trip ferry travel with BC Ferries for two (2) adults and one (1) standard vehicle
How to enter:
Post a photo on Instagram, Twitter or Facebook showing how you’re exploring BC’s Coast safely, along with the hashtag #ShareTheCoastSafely.
Get creative! Share the unique ways you’re safely exploring our picturesque province while doing your part for the health and safety of the BC community. Don’t forget to show the best of beautiful BC in your photo, whether it’s the snow-capped mountains, sprawling ocean, quaint towns, or majestic wildlife (from a safe distance, of course!). Make sure all individuals pictured have given their consent for the photo to be entered (wildlife permission not required).
Judging criteria and process:
A panel of judges appointed by BC Ferries will review all eligible entries and select five finalists, based on how well they:
- Illustrate safe and responsible travel wearing a face covering
- Highlight the beauty of British Columbia
- Display creativity and originality
The finalists will be contacted by BC Ferries and their images will be featured in a BC Ferries’ Facebook album and on Instagram on or around August 17, 2020. The judges will select the winning submission from the five finalists on or around August 21, 2020. The winning photo will be selected at the judges’ discretion. The judges’ decision is final and cannot be challenged. If you win, a BC Ferries representative will contact you on or around August 24, 2020 — you will have 48 hours to reply, otherwise another finalist will be selected.
- Only photos submitted with the contest hashtag #ShareTheCoastSafely during the contest period from July 16 to August 13, 2020 will be considered.
- Limit of 10 original entries per person.
- Your submission must be an original photo of your own creation taken in British Columbia in the past month.
- To enter, you must be 19 or older and have an active Instagram, Facebook or Twitter account.
- Your post must be public so it can be found by our judges.
Like and follow BC Ferries on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram to stay up to date on the #ShareTheCoastSafely competition and to see if you’re a finalist! We'll be sharing updates throughout the contest period.

On or after August 14, 2020 a panel of judges appointed by BC Ferries (the “Judging Panel”) will review posts and select five (5) photos to be featured in a BC Ferries Facebook album. Each of these five (5) photos will be considered a “Finalist”. Selections will be based on the degree to which the Judging Panel considers, in its discretion, each entered image to:
(i) be original;
(ii) be creative; and
(iii) be relevant to the Contest theme of capturing safe and responsible travel in BC while wearing a face covering,
with each of the above criteria being equally weighted.
Before an image is declared a top five (5) Finalist and posted on Facebook, the entrant who submitted the image will be contacted by BC Ferries and required to confirm their eligibility, their agreement to comply in full with these Contest Rules and their agreement to have their photo posted and will also be required to:
1. sign and return an Image Copyright License agreement, confirming their grant to BC Ferries, in perpetuity, of a non-exclusive license to publish, use, adapt, display, reproduce, modify, edit or otherwise use their submitted photo, in whole or in part, for advertising or promoting the Contest or for any other reason and, without limiting the generality of the foregoing, in a BC Ferries Facebook album and/or other BC Ferries marketing/advertising materials; and
2. where applicable, obtain from any and all third parties whose image is contained in their photo (or their legal guardian if such third parties have not reached the age of majority in their jurisdiction of residence), consent to the disclosure of such person(s)’ personal information, in the form of a Third Party Consent/Release form provided by BC Ferries, authorizing BC Ferries to collect, use, broadcast, publish and disseminate their image, photograph, likeness, or reference to them, in any advertising or publicity, in any medium, inside or outside Canada, without any further compensation or notice.
Notification of Finalists:
Selected entrants who uploaded their image to Facebook will be contacted via a Private Message on Facebook from the @BCFerries Facebook team. If the selected entrant has not ‘liked’ the BC Ferries Facebook page, than Direct Messaging will not be possible; in this case BC Ferries’ social media team will “reply” to the photo with a message requesting that the selected entrant contact it directly via email at firstname.lastname@example.org, in which case the selected entrant must do so within 48 hours of BC Ferries’ message. Selected entrants who uploaded their image to Twitter will be contacted via a Direct Message on Twitter from the @BCFerries Twitter team. If the selected entrant is not a “follower” of the BC Ferries Twitter page, than Direct Messaging will not be possible; in this case BC Ferries’ social media team will “reply” to the tweet with a message requesting that the selected entrant contact it within 48 hours directly via email at email@example.com. Selected entrants who uploaded their image to Instagram will be contacted via a comment on their Instagram post from the @BCFerries Instagram team, requesting that the selected entrant contact it with 48 hours directly via email at firstname.lastname@example.org.
If an entrant does not reply within 48 hours and agree to comply in full with these Contest Rules and to have their photo posted, he or she will be disqualified and an alternate entrant will be selected as a Finalist in accordance with the selection process explained above. Entrant must also provide contact information as requested by BC Ferries.
Once five (5) Finalist photos have been selected and the entrants who submitted those have provided the required documents, consents and confirmations, those ten photos will be featured in a BC Ferries Facebook album on or around August 17, 2020. On or around August 21, 2020, the Judging Panel will review the five (5) Finalist entries and select the one (1) photo which will be eligible to win the Contest. Winning entry will be selected at the discretion of the judges and selection will be based on the degree to which the Judging Panel considers, in its discretion, each entered image to:
(i) be original;
(ii) be creative;
(iii) be relevant to the Contest theme of capturing safe and responsible travel in BC while wearing a face covering,
with each of the above criteria being equally weighted.
Chances of being declared a Finalist and the chances of winning depend on the number and calibre of entries and on the decisions of the Judging Panel acting in its sole discretion. Judging is subjective and the decisions of the Judging Panel are final.
At both stages referred to above, photos will be selected in the judges’ sole and exclusive discretion and selection of the winner will be based on the specified criteria listed above.
Notification of Selected Entrant:
Selected entrant will be contacted via email on or around August 24 2020, using the email address provided before he/she was declared a Finalist. In the event the selected entrant cannot be contacted within 48 hours after the attempted contact, he or she will be disqualified and an alternate Finalist will be selected. Proof of identification must be provided upon request. Before being awarded the Prize, selected entrant and his/her traveling companion (and in the event of a minor traveling companion, his/her legal guardian) will be required to sign and return, within the time stipulated by BC Ferries, a full release and indemnity form stating that he/she has read and understood these Contest Rules, grants all consents required, authorizes BC Ferries to disclose his/her personal information publicly inside or outside Canada for the period of one (1) year for the purposes of broadcasting, publishing and disseminating his/her name, city of residence, image, likeness, sobriquet and voice, in connection with any promotion or publicity, and/or for general news, entertainment and information purposes at no additional compensation to the selected entrant and/or traveling companion, beyond the awarding of or participation in the Prize, accepts the Prize as offered and releases BC Ferries and its advertising and promotion agencies, the Contest judges and each of their respective agents, employees, directors, successors, and assigns from any and all liability of any kind arising out of the selected entrant’s and/or traveling companion’s participation in this Contest and receipt and use of the Prize. In the event that the selected entrant and/or traveling companion do not comply with all the provisions as contemplated in these Contest Rules, BC Ferries shall have the right to disqualify selected entrant and/or traveling companion, and select an alternate entrant from remaining Finalists and BC Ferries shall be fully and completely released and discharged from any liability or responsibility in this regard. The provisions and procedures referred to above relating to selection and notification of a selected entrant and/or traveling companion, shall be applied, with the necessary amendments, until a qualified winner and traveling companion have been duly selected.
