Just a 30-minute drive northwest of Nanaimo, the beautiful seaside town of Qualicum Beach awaits discovery. Hanging flower baskets and planters are a common sight around a town that’s been labelled Vancouver Island’s Garden Village. Whether on land or sea, the range of activities available belies the small stature of the town. Over 19 kilometres of accessible beachfront are centred on Qualicum Beach, making it an excellent destination for kayaking, sailing or fishing. On dry land, Mount Arrowsmith Biosphere Reserve, a designated UNESCO biosphere reserve, encompasses the entire local area and contains a number of parks. One of these is MacMillan Provincial Park, which contains the spectacular Cathedral Grove, a landmark old-growth forest.
